Sen. Elissa Slotkin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, recently addressed concerns on social media about the impact of federal policy changes on local communities and families.

On August 15, 2025, Slotkin posted about cuts to the Head Start program: "Head Start may seem like just another program to some in Washington, but it makes a big impact for working parents. Now, because of arbitrary cuts, parents are desperately trying to figure out next steps and find child care for their kids." She highlighted the challenges faced by working parents due to these funding reductions.

Later that day, Slotkin emphasized the importance of communication with local leaders: "It’s always important to hear directly from leaders about how federal changes impact them, and how I can help."

In another post from August 15, she described discussions with officials in Ypsilanti: "In Ypsilanti, when I asked local leaders what keeps them up at night, I heard about everything from funding concerns, infrastructure, AI, to opportunities like data centers interested in this area."

Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. She graduated from Cornell University with a BA in 1998. Her ongoing engagement with constituents reflects her commitment to addressing both immediate community needs and broader policy impacts.
