The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will carry out maintenance work on M-32 (Washington Avenue) in Alpena from Ripley Street to 2nd Avenue, starting Wednesday, September 23, 2025. The project is expected to be completed by Friday, September 26, 2025.

According to MDOT, the maintenance involves adjusting manhole covers along this stretch of M-32. "This work will require a detour for M-32 through-traffic between Ripley Street and 2nd Avenue via 11th Street and US-23 (Chisholm Street). Access to local businesses and residences will be maintained," the department stated.

MDOT also noted that the project aims to improve the ride quality of the roadway.

The detour will redirect through traffic onto nearby streets while allowing local access for residents and businesses in the area. The county affected by this project is Alpena.
