Failed Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers has made statements denying that Michigan families are facing higher costs due to inflation and tariffs, according to comments reported by Automotive News. Rogers said, “You have no appreciative inflation […] Working families [are] not paying more.” In an interview with Automotive News Daily Drive on September 23, 2025, he added, “Remember where we are today, so you have no appreciative inflation. Matter of fact, it’s down, I don’t know, one tenth of one percent, and that means working families [are] not paying more.”

Contrary to Rogers’ claims, economic analysts have pointed out that inflation is rising and there are concerns about the risk of stagflation. Consumer sentiment has declined again this week. Michigan families continue to pay higher prices as a result of the tariffs supported by Rogers.

The Michigan Democratic Party criticized Rogers for his remarks. Joey Hannum, spokesperson for the party, stated: “Mike Rogers is so out of touch with Michigan families that he’s literally denying the reality they face at the grocery store every single day. While working families struggle with the higher costs that Price Hike Mike supports, he’s making a mockery of their financial pain and claiming inflation doesn’t exist.”

This follows previous instances in which Rogers reportedly dismissed concerns about inflation and defended tariffs despite their financial impact on consumers.
