Senator Elissa Slotkin, who has represented Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, addressed several issues affecting her state and the nation in a series of posts on September 30, 2025.
In her first post, Slotkin highlighted recent violence in Michigan: "Last night, I spoke on the floor of the Senate about the community of Grand Blanc Township, the first responders who heroically acted, and what this means for all of us. In Michigan, we've had 5 major mass shootings in 4 years. America has a problem, and we have to acknowledge" (September 30, 2025).
Later that day, she commented on ongoing budget negotiations and concerns over presidential actions: "If you want my vote, you have to negotiate in good faith and act like adults to pass a budget. The President has violated the Constitution and the law too many times, and I am not just going to take him at his word. I have to see it in black and white." (September 30, 2025).
Addressing potential impacts of federal government decisions on her constituents, Slotkin wrote: "A potential federal government shutdown would have impacts in Michigan, as does anything happening in Washington. Today, I held a virtual town hall with local leaders from across Michigan, answering their questions about what a shutdown of the federal government means for their" (September 30, 2025).
Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. She graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998.
