Sen. Elissa Slotkin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, recently posted a series of statements on her official social media account addressing current political negotiations and community response to tragedy.

On October 5, 2025, Slotkin stated, "The Republicans need my vote. So I am using my leverage." The post came amid ongoing discussions in Congress, where members often negotiate across party lines to secure legislative priorities.

Later that same day, Slotkin referenced former President Donald Trump’s comments from 2011 regarding government shutdowns: "President Trump in 2011: ‘If there is a shutdown, it would be a tremendously negative mark on the President. He is the one that has to get people together.’"

In another post published early on October 6, Slotkin reflected on bipartisan cooperation following a recent tragedy in Grand Blanc: "We can learn from our law enforcement about the importance of being nonpartisan about a tragedy like this. In the aftermath, we came together as Democrats and Republicans at the local, state, and federal levels to figure out how we could get support to the Grand Blanc community."

Slotkin has served in Congress since defeating Mike Bishop in 2019 and represents Michigan's 7th District. She was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. Slotkin graduated from Cornell University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1998.
