The Michigan Clean Boats, Clean Waters program has announced the availability of $35,000 in grant funding for its sixth season. The grants are intended to support education efforts focused on preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species throughout Michigan.

Organizations eligible to apply include lake associations, watershed groups, local or tribal governments, schools, nature centers, and non-profit organizations. Cooperative Invasive Species Management Areas and groups with a statewide reach are encouraged to assist local organizations within their regions.

Funding is available for projects that emphasize outreach and prevention related to aquatic invasive species. Grants of up to $3,000 per project can be used for educational signage, removal tools for invasive species, outreach materials such as handouts or promotional items, and supplies needed for booths or presentations. Expenses not covered by the grant include eradication activities, mechanical boat washing stations, and indirect staffing costs like fringe benefits.

"This is a competitive funding opportunity. Applications will be reviewed and ranked based on group eligibility, project significance, anticipated outcomes and target audiences," according to the program announcement.

Interested applicants can find more information and submit applications through the Clean Boats, Clean Waters grant website. The deadline for submissions is January 30, 2026.
