The Mackinac Straits Corridor Authority (MSCA) is scheduled to hold a public meeting on October 17 in St. Ignace, Michigan. The MSCA is responsible for supervising the construction, maintenance, and operation of a utility tunnel beneath the Straits of Mackinac.
The meeting will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Little Bear East Community Center, located at 275 Marquette St., St. Ignace. Interested residents, community members, and staff or contractors from the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) are invited to attend. The full agenda will be posted on the MSCA website, and the proceedings can be viewed live on YouTube.
Attendees requiring assistance related to mobility, vision, hearing, or other needs are encouraged to contact Orlando Curry at 517-241-7462 or CurryO@Michigan.gov at least five business days before the event. Forms for such requests can be found on the Title VI webpage; late requests will be considered as possible.
Public comments may be submitted in writing online or by email to MDOT-MSCA@Michigan.gov. Individuals wishing to speak during the meeting will have up to three minutes each for their remarks.
The planned tunnel will house a replacement segment for Enbridge Line 5’s light oil and natural gas liquids pipelines—currently positioned on the lakebed—and will also accommodate other utilities aimed at improving infrastructure between Michigan’s peninsulas. Upon completion, ownership of the tunnel will transfer to MSCA, which will oversee its operation and maintenance throughout its lifespan.
Additional information about MSCA’s responsibilities, past meeting records, and frequently asked questions are available on its official website.
