A Chinese national, Huazi Piao, 61, has been sentenced to 40 months to 20 years in prison for operating commercial sex businesses at illicit massage parlors in Wayne County. The sentencing was handed down by 3rd Circuit Court Judge Tracy Green. Piao pleaded guilty in September to one count of Conducting a Criminal Enterprise after being charged by Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel’s office in December 2024.
The charges followed an investigation that began last summer into an alleged international human trafficking network. Multiple agencies participated in the investigation, including Homeland Security Investigations, the Michigan State Police, and the St. Clair Shores Police Department.
“I would like to thank the prosecutors from my department and our law enforcement partners whose dedication was instrumental in securing this conviction and delivering justice for human trafficking survivors,” said Nessel when Piao was convicted. “My office remains committed to combating human trafficking and shutting down the criminal enterprises that perpetuate it.”
Resources on human trafficking and assistance are available through the Attorney General’s website.
