Mike Duggan, mayor of Detroit, is holding a high-profile fundraiser tonight with a donor who contributed $100,000 to the Trump Victory PAC in 2020. The donor has also been associated with several corruption scandals related to city contracts, according to the Detroit Metro Times.

This event follows Duggan’s recent public support for former President Trump’s Medicaid policy changes. The Michigan Democratic Party responded by launching billboards in Detroit criticizing Duggan’s association with prominent Trump supporters and donors. Among those backing Duggan are Ron Weiser, former chair of the Michigan Republican Party and Trump ally; JC Huizenga, known for his involvement in charter schools; and former aides to ex-Governor Rick Snyder, who played a role in Michigan’s Right to Work legislation.

Michigan Democratic Party spokesperson Derrick Honeyman stated, “Mike Duggan is defending Trump’s cuts to Medicaid and has sold himself out to MAGA donors who want to drag Michigan backwards. Tonight’s event is just more proof that Michiganders can’t trust Mike Duggan.”

The fundraiser is scheduled for Wednesday night in Detroit. Attendance requires an RSVP and a contribution of $8,325.

For further details, the Detroit Metro Times reported on the event and the connections between the host and previous city contract scandals.
