The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will begin single-lane closures on I-69 between I-75 and Morrish Road in Genesee County starting October 15, 2025. These closures are intended to allow the construction of traffic crossovers in preparation for a $33.3 million project to improve 15 bridges along this stretch of highway, as well as two additional structures near Sheridan Road in Shiawassee County.

According to MDOT, the planned improvements will include shallow and deep overlays, partial deck replacements, steel repairs, guardrail installations, and approach work. The bridge work is scheduled to begin in early 2026 and is expected to be completed by October 2027.

The affected areas include the communities of Flint, Swartz Creek, and Lennon. During the initial phase this fall, the left lane of I-69 will be closed to facilitate the traffic crossover construction. MDOT stated that "lane closures during this type of work are necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews and motorists." Additional traffic restrictions related to the project will be announced at a later date.

Economic modeling suggests that the investment is expected to support approximately 318 jobs directly and indirectly over the course of the project.
