State Central Committee member Huwaida Arraf, a civil rights attorney from Macomb County, was detained by the Israeli military while taking part in the Freedom Flotilla. The flotilla was attempting to deliver humanitarian aid and medical supplies to Gaza.

In response, Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel issued a statement: “We urge the military to provide safety for Huwaida Arraf following her efforts to deliver life-saving humanitarian aid to Gaza, and we call for her safe and expedient return.”

The situation highlights ongoing concerns regarding humanitarian access to Gaza and the risks faced by activists seeking to provide aid in conflict areas.
