The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) announced the reopening of the M-30 bridge over US-10 in Sanford on Monday, October 13. The bridge had been closed as part of a $7.3 million project aimed at improving the structure.
According to MDOT, the new bridge is designed to offer a safer and more reliable route for drivers. It also features a 14-foot-wide separated nonmotorized path on the west side, which will allow for future pathway connections.
While the bridge is now open to traffic, MDOT noted that there may still be intermittent lane and shoulder closures on both M-30 and US-10 as crews complete remaining work.
The project experienced delays after beams set in May showed signs of cracking. MDOT stated, "Out of an abundance of caution, crews promptly removed the beams and replacements were obtained. New beams were secured and installed in August."
MDOT estimates that the investment in this project will directly and indirectly support approximately 70 jobs.
