The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that Meridian Road at M-43 in Ingham County will be closed starting Monday, October 20, as crews begin work to rebuild the intersection. This closure is part of the ongoing project to replace the M-43 bridge over the Red Cedar River.

The closure is expected to last until Sunday, November 23, with work scheduled to start at 7 a.m. on October 20 and conclude by 7 p.m. on November 23. The affected area is near the communities of Okemos and Williamston.

MDOT stated, "The new bridge will provide drivers with a safe, reliable structure for decades to come. Rebuilding the intersection will create a smoother, safer driving surface for drivers." The department also explained, "Closing lanes during this type of work is necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews and motorists."

The $11 million investment for this project is expected to support approximately 105 jobs, according to economic modeling.

During construction, Meridian Road at M-43 will be closed and posted detours will be in place. MDOT advises motorists to expect delays and seek alternate routes.

The main goal of the project is to improve safety and reliability for drivers in the region.
