Sen. Elissa Slotkin, who represents Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of statements on social media expressing concern over rising health insurance costs and recent political actions affecting federal assistance programs.

On October 30, 2025, Slotkin wrote, "There is a health crisis hitting Michiganders because of what this President has done. From Dexter to Dearborn Heights, people are receiving letters that their health insurance will go up." Later that day, she continued her commentary by referencing an online resource for residents: "The https://t.co/6af0Z7VUAU website is now open for Michiganders to see 2026 plans. Many are seeing prices dramatically increase. Share your story: https://t.co/866HZY2sUf."

In another post dated October 31, 2025, Slotkin criticized the use of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) in political negotiations: "The President should never use SNAP as a political weapon. It’s beyond the pale. I would vote on a Republican bill to fund SNAP today."

Elissa Slotkin has represented Michigan's 7th District since replacing Mike Bishop in 2019 and currently resides in Lansing. Born in New York City in 1976, she earned her undergraduate degree from Cornell University in 1998.
