Michigan residents will soon be able to find nearly 100 new self-service stations throughout the state for auto, motorcycle and boat registration renewal, including in grocery stores.
Kiosks located at branch offices are slated to be completely phased out by April.
Michigan Secretary of State (SOS) Jocelyn Benson recently announced the kiosks, which were part of a pilot program, will be replaced with a total of 150 of the self-service stations located at the branch offices and at grocery stores, including Meijer and Kroger. The machines will be available 24 hours, seven days a week, according to the SOS' Office.
“During the pilot phase, the number of transactions increased significantly on three-quarters of the new machines compared to the same period the previous year. In some locations, the increase has been as much as 57 percent," Benson told WXYZ.
Residents will pay a $3.95 service fee for a transaction at the new self-service stations, which are manufactured and maintained by Intellectual Technology Inc.
