State Rep. Greg Alexander has joined a call for the deployment of Michigan National Guard members to assist with the crisis at the southern border, specifically in Texas. In a letter to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, Alexander emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, "The United States has a logistical and humanitarian crisis currently underway at our southern border in Texas."

The letter highlights the need for Michigan to extend support during times of national distress, pointing out the severe consequences the crisis is having on the entire nation. Alexander stressed the capabilities of the Michigan National Guard, stating, “The Michigan National Guard is world-renowned for its professionalism and skill...skills that would help at our out-of-control southern border with currently overwhelmed personnel."

As the situation at the border continues to escalate, with record-high encounters and a significant increase in individuals on the Terrorist Screening Dataset, Alexander underscored the importance of addressing the crisis promptly. He noted, “We are seeing the impacts of the border situation here in Michigan...every state is a border state."

The call for assistance from the Michigan National Guard comes in response to the escalating challenges faced at the southern border, including the influx of drugs and individuals with criminal backgrounds into communities across the country. Rep. Alexander and other state legislators are urging swift action to address the crisis and mitigate its impacts on the nation.
