Charlotte Public Schools issued the following announcement on Feb 8.
Participating students can graduate high school with free college credits that will apply to their process of entering the educational field
Charlotte Public Schools is rolling out our Future Educator Program for the 2022-23 school year! Our Future Educator Program is focused on giving our Charlotte students an opportunity to learn and experience different positions in the education field and give them leadership skills that will be beneficial for any future career.
Future Educators is designed for students who are interested in exploring or entering the career field of education. This course will involve the student in classroom instruction on philosophy, design, and practice. Students will participate in classroom instruction as well as site visits, observations, lesson designs, and mock lessons. Students will apply their knowledge and skills in real life experiences through placements in various educational settings. Students will be expected to design lessons and provide instruction during the semester.
The program will be led by veteran CPS teacher, Kristen Toadvine. Kristen is an educational leader in and out of the classroom. Her successful experience with Special Education, Social Studies, English, Freshman Academy, Project Success, department head, leadership team, and MTSS team will give the students a tremendous amount of knowledge to learn from. Kristen’s thoughts explain why she is a perfect fit for the program: “Having the opportunity to work with future educators has been a lifelong goal. As an educator, I am truly passionate about the work I do; fostering a love for the career field that I have spent 20 plus years in is inspiring and motivating. Throughout the creation and implementation of this new course, it is my hope that I am able to inspire my students much like previous educators inspired me. Being a teacher is truly rewarding and a never-ending learning experience. I am eager to venture into this new opportunity and to learn alongside my students.”
As the program progresses, CPS plans to partner with universities to get articulated credits. This will allow our students to graduate high school with free college credits that will apply to their process of entering the educational field or other university programs. CPS values education, and now we can foster future educators into the field!
