Congressman Tom Barrett highlighted several community and economic initiatives in a series of posts on social media between August 31 and September 2, 2025. Barrett, who represents Michigan’s 7th Congressional District, shared updates on his visits to local organizations and legislative achievements.
On August 31, Barrett wrote about his visit to the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids. He stated, "Since 1925, the VFW National Home in Eaton Rapids has served our country’s military families. This one-of-a-kind home provides veterans and their loved ones housing, child care, and other critical services — helping them transition to independence. It was great to visit the home".
In a post dated September 1 for Labor Day, Barrett addressed recent tax reforms impacting Michigan's workforce: "Michigan’s working class has a lot to celebrate this Labor Day thanks to the historic tax relief we delivered in the One Big Beautiful Bill. No tax on tips or overtime. Higher wages and take-home pay. More money in the pockets of hardworking families who keep our economy moving."
The following day, September 2, Barrett described his meeting with employees at The Boldt Company facility in Lyon Township: "From hospitals and schools to offices and factories, the Boldt Company constructs critical buildings across the country. Thank you to the team for welcoming me to the facility in Lyon Township to discuss the construction industry and the unique needs of employee-owned companies".
The VFW National Home has operated since its founding nearly a century ago as a support center for military families transitioning back into civilian life by providing housing and essential services. Congressman Barrett’s reference to “the One Big Beautiful Bill” relates to recent state-level legislation aimed at reducing taxes for working-class residents by eliminating levies on tips and overtime earnings while promoting higher wages—measures intended to increase disposable income among Michigan families.
