“The RFD Boys” kick off ‘Concert in the Park’ series on June 15
For the first time in 2 years, the St Johns “Concert in the Park” series will present a regular season of 12 concerts. The opening concert will take place on Wednesday evening, June 15 this year starting at 7:00 in the William E. Tennant Performance Shell in the beautiful St. Johns City Park.
“I’ve been looking for a great bluegrass band for a number of years for our concert series,” states Bill Tennant, series coordinator. “’The RFD Boys’ are a true crowd pleaser – one of the best bluegrass groups in the state without question. It’s a great group to bring to St. Johns to kick off our 2022 season!”
“The RFD Boys” formed in 1969 and, now, 53 years later, are still delivering the bluegrass music that made them an Ann Arbor institution. Since 1985, the Ark, Ann Arbor’s premier small stage performance venue, has been their home. They have shared the stage with the legends of bluegrass from Bill Monroe to Allison Krauss, been on the cover of Bluegrass Unlimited, and traveled as far as Germany, Monaco, Malta, New Zealand, and Australia. During their 50th anniversary year, they were honored by the Detroit Music Awards and released their first studio album since 1976 entitled “RFD Boys at 50 – Still Delivering.”
Members of the group include Dave Mosher on Fiddle/Mandolin, Dan Roehrig on Guitar, Will Spencer on Banjo, Charlie Roehrig on Guitar and Paul Shapio on Acoustic Bass. They all are singing members of the group.
The concert is sponsored by the Clinton County Arts Council (CCAC) and the City of St. Johns. It is open to the public free of charge – donations are graciously accepted.
All concerts are presented rain or shine. The Lion’s Club food trailer will be available this year – social distancing and safety precautions are strongly encouraged. The CCAC receives funding from the Michigan Arts & Cultural Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
