East Lansing City Clerk’s Office Extended Hours and Election Reminders

EAST LANSING, Mich. — As the August 2, 2022 State Primary Election approaches, East Lansing voters are reminded that extended hours will be offered at the East Lansing City Clerk’s Office, 410 Abbot Road, in addition to regular hours.

Extended hours will be offered on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Additionally, the City Clerk’s Office will be open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. on Election Day. Outside of these extended hours, regular office hours at the City Clerk’s Office are Monday-Friday from 8 a.m.-5 p.m.

At the City Clerk’s Office, East Lansing voters can register to vote, apply for and vote their absentee ballots and/or turn in their voted absentee ballot. Voted absentee ballots can also be dropped off at the following ballot drop box locations in the community, which are secured and checked daily by City Clerk’s Office staff:

East Lansing City Hall (north parking lot), 410 Abbot Road
East Lansing Public Library, 950 Abbot Road
East Lansing Department of Public Works, 1800 E. State Road
MSU-CATA Transportation Center, 592 N. Shaw Lane

Requests to have an absentee ballot mailed must be received by the Clerk by 5 p.m. the Friday before the election and the deadline to request an absentee ballot in person at the City Clerk’s Office is 4 p.m. the Monday prior to the election. Within two weeks of an election, to avoid possible postal delays, it is recommended that absentee ballot requests be made in person at the City Clerk’s Office. Absentee ballots must be returned to the City Clerk’s Office or a drop box by 8 p.m. on Election Day.

On Election Day, East Lansing’s polls will be open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. and same-day voter registration will be offered at the City Clerk’s Office. For those registering to vote leading up to and on Election Day, proof of residency must be provided. This proof must include the voter’s name and current address and it can be in electronic format. Acceptable forms include:

MSU LiveOn App
Michigan Driver’s license or state ID
Current utility bill
Bank statement
Paycheck or government check
Other government document

Additionally, those voting in person on Election Day are reminded that they must show a picture i.d. or sign an affidavit attesting that they are not in possession of a picture i.d. before voting. Due to recent redistricting, those planning to vote in person on Election Day are encouraged to confirm their polling location at https://mi.gov/vote.
