Remove Personal Belongings from Vehicles:
The KCSO is continuing to see vehicles in parking lots broken into day and night. So far this year Kent County has had 34 vehicles broken into with numbers totaling 471 in 2022. Stolen vehicles are often used in the commission of these break-ins and thieves are breaking windows if they see anything sitting out inside the vehicle. Retirement centers in Grand Rapids Township have been victim to theft from vehicles and we have seen a significant uptick at gym/workout centers along the 28th St corridor in Cascade Township.
Just this morning at 10:00 AM a witness observed a vehicle's window being smashed (picture attached) and a purse stolen from a vehicle in a business parking lot in the 1100 Block of East Paris. The suspects were described as two younger black males, one wearing a dark-colored "puffy coat". The two sped off in a maroon-colored SUV. KCSO deputies are actively working on this case.
KCSO deputies and detectives are diligently working on these cases involving stolen cars and vehicle break-ins. On December 29th, 2022 detectives located a vehicle stolen out of the City of Kentwood traveling towards Caledonia Village. The vehicle started to drive through business lots and a high-risk stop was initiated. Five juveniles ran from the car but were subsequently caught. All five were arrested on charges related to the stolen car. Their ages range from 14 years old to 17 years old, and all are from the Grand Rapids Metro area.
