Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan's 7th district, has recently shared her thoughts on significant historical and current events through a series of tweets. On December 7, 2024, she commemorated the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack, while on December 8, she addressed the ongoing situation in Syria.

On December 7, Rep. Slotkin reflected on the anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack by Imperial Japan in 1941. She remarked on this historical event stating that "On December 7, 1941, our Navy was attacked by Imperial Japan and over 2,000 American service members were killed at Pearl Harbor. Today, 83 years later, we remember those we lost on 'a date which will live in infamy'."

The following day, December 8, Rep. Slotkin turned her attention to the Syrian conflict and its impact on Syrian Americans living in Michigan. She noted that "It’s hard to overstate what Syrians have been through, especially in the last 13 years of civil war." She emphasized that many Syrian Michiganders are experiencing mixed emotions about their homeland's future.

Additionally on December 8th, she further elaborated on the changes occurring in Syria with another tweet: "In Syria, this is a moment of such possibility — and such risk." Rep. Slotkin highlighted that the fall of the Assad regime marks an end to more than five decades of authoritarian rule characterized by severe human rights violations.
