Michigan Senate Democrats have passed a resolution urging Congress to maintain the Affordable Care Act (ACA) credits that help many residents pay for health insurance. The resolution highlights concerns that losing these credits could make coverage unaffordable for thousands in the state.

Curtis Hertel, Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party, issued a statement after the resolution was approved. He said, “Without financial assistance from the Affordable Care Act, countless Michiganders and their families will lose their access to health care as insurance prices skyrocket. I’m proud of Michigan Senate Democrats for standing up for the thousands of people who are going to be devastated if these ACA provisions aren’t continued.”

Hertel also criticized Michigan Republicans’ stance on the issue. “Unfortunately, many Michigan Republicans have made it very clear they will pick Trump over their working families across Michigan, every time. Thankfully, Michigan Democrats will continue to stand up for the vulnerable Michiganders being forgotten by Trump and his Republicans.”

The ACA has provided subsidies that reduce costs for health insurance coverage in Michigan and other states. State lawmakers are seeking continued federal support to prevent disruptions in access to affordable healthcare.
