Rep. Elissa Slotkin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan's 7th district, has been vocal on various issues through her social media presence. On December 8, 2024, she addressed the situation in Syria and the potential for peace in the region.
In a tweet posted on December 8, 2024, Rep. Slotkin emphasized the need for all parties involved in Syria to engage in peaceful dialogue. She stated, "Going forward, any possibility of peace in Syria depends on all parties rising above violence and engaging in constructive dialogue to ensure the freedom of all Syrians, including minorities. With hope, we hold our breath."
On December 10, 2024, Rep. Slotkin shared reflections on her time in the House as she prepares to transition out of her current role. In one tweet from that day, she expressed mixed emotions about receiving a "former member card," which grants access to the House floor after her departure. She wrote, "These last few weeks in the House are bittersweet: Today, my friend @RepSpanberger and I, along with a number of others, got our 'former member cards', which will allow us onto the House floor even after we leave the House on January 2nd."
Further reflecting on her future role as a Senator and her past contributions as a representative for Michigan, Slotkin tweeted later that same day: "As a Senator, I will have the ability to come on the House floor anytime, but this floor will always be where I cast my first vote for the people of Michigan."
