Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a U.S. Congress member representing Michigan's 7th district since 2019, has recently shared her views on immigration reform and the use of military personnel in law enforcement roles. Additionally, she expressed appreciation for community events in Oak Park.
On January 26, 2025, Rep. Slotkin emphasized her willingness to collaborate on border security and immigration reform but cautioned against involving the military in law enforcement duties. She stated: "I’ll work with anyone to secure the border and have a real conversation on immigration reform. But it would cross a line if our military is asked to serve as law enforcement, which they’ll be the first to tell you they’re not trained to do."
In another tweet posted shortly after, Slotkin reiterated her stance that while action is necessary, the military should not be used in ways that contravene constitutional principles: "Michiganders want action, but our military should never be used in ways that violate our Constitution."
Later that day, Rep. Slotkin attended Winterfest in Oak Park and commended the event's organization. She tweeted: "Great food, friends, face painting, and ice sculpting! The @CityofOakPark sure knows how to throw a GREAT Winterfest! Thank you to @MayorMcClellan for the tour."
