FOIA Request Sent to Eaton County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025

A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request was sent to the Eaton County Election Division regarding the candidates running in the upcoming election on February 5, 2025. The request was made by Capitol News, a media organization committed to providing comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs.

In our quest for transparency and accountability, we requested detailed information about each candidate. This includes their first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and party affiliation. We also asked for all contact information available for each candidate such as their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization, access to public records is essential for us to fulfill our professional responsibilities. These include holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. We believe that being able to access this information will enable us to better inform our readers about who is running in their local elections.

We have also requested a fee waiver due to our role as a media professional involved in gathering and reporting news to the public. We await a response from the Eaton County Election Division regarding this matter.
