Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a U.S. Congress member representing Michigan's 7th district since 2019, has shared her views on matters related to the handling of classified information by senior officials. Her comments were made through a series of tweets that address the potential consequences and implications of such actions.

On March 25, 2025, Rep. Slotkin highlighted the potential repercussions for individuals involved in mishandling classified information. She stated that "The agency Inspector General would then likely investigate to determine whether additional action is warranted. Such action could include a written reprimand, loss of their security clearance, termination, and even loss of retirement pay."

Continuing her discussion on March 26, 2025, she emphasized the core issue at stake when senior officials engage in texting classified information. Slotkin noted that "In the discussion of senior officials texting classified info, let’s remember that this issue, at its heart, is about the safety of the U.S. forces deployed, and the families waiting at home for news of their loved one."

Further addressing concerns about the Secretary of Defense's handling of sensitive information on March 26, 2025, Rep. Slotkin questioned his apparent lack of concern regarding disclosure risks: "The Secretary of Defense seems to feel no qualms about disclosing classified information on those in harm’s way. If that was his child on that mission, would he simply shrug his shoulders? I think not."
