Senator Elissa Slotkin, a Democratic member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th District, recently addressed several issues through her Twitter posts. Her comments focused on the national security implications of Chinese automotive competition, her opposition to the SAVE Act, and the importance of maintaining strong alliances for effective deterrence against China.
On April 10, 2025, Slotkin raised concerns about the influence of Chinese vehicles in foreign markets and the potential threat they pose to national security. She noted, “Chinese vehicles have not yet arrived on our shores, but they have eaten up market share in Europe and Mexico — and their collection of American data is a national security threat.”
On April 11, 2025, Slotkin expressed her opposition to the SAVE Act, detailing the potential impact on voters. She stated, “I oppose the SAVE Act, a bill where if you have changed your name or do not have a passport you may be turned away from voting. This bill will make it harder for the 80% of married women who have changed their name, and the 60% of Michiganders who don't have a passport to vote.”
Later on the same day, Slotkin criticized the current administration’s approach toward international alliances, especially in the context of deterring China. She remarked, “To deter China, you need friends who live in their neighborhood to help send a clear and united message. Instead, this Admin is kicking our allies in the teeth with tariffs and cheap shots in the press. You can’t claim to care about deterrence if you’re alienating our partners.”
Elissa Slotkin, having served in Congress since 2019, continues to represent Michigan’s 7th District. She was born in New York City in 1976 and resides in Lansing. Slotkin is an alumna of Cornell University, where she graduated in 1998 with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
