For Michigan, steel is more than just an industry—it’s the backbone of our  economy. Our auto manufacturers, defense contractors, and industrial companies all rely on access to strong, affordable American steel.

For years, we’ve been forced to deal with global supply chain failures, foreign price manipulation, and Washington’s inaction. We’ve watched Chinese steel undercut our market, force our mills to close, and drive up prices once competition was eliminated.

That’s why Nippon Steel’s decision to keep all domestically produced steel in the United States is a turning point for our economy. It guarantees that our state’s manufacturers have direct access to high-quality steel, protecting our workers, our businesses, and our economic future.

Every time America relies on foreign steel, we put ourselves at risk. We give control over a vital resource to adversaries who have no interest in seeing us succeed. By ensuring that American steel stays in America, we regain control over our supply chains, protect our industries, and create a more stable economic future.

This is not just a win for Michigan, it’s a win for every state that depends on American industry. It’s proof that we can rebuild our economy, strengthen our workforce, and create long-term prosperity by putting our country first.

Our leaders in Washington must stop listening to globalists and corporate elites who have sold out American industry for decades. It’s time to support policies that prioritize domestic manufacturing, secure our supply chains, and ensure that American steel stays where it belongs; right here at home.

Michigan was built on American industry, American steel, and American workers. The US Steel-Nippon deal ensures that our future will be built on them too.
