Senator Elissa Slotkin, a representative of Michigan's 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently shared updates on her activities and reflections through social media posts. These posts provide insights into her engagement with law enforcement and education communities.
On May 15, 2025, Senator Slotkin participated in an event honoring fallen Deputy Sheriffs Brad Reckling and William Butler from Hillsdale County during police week. In her tweet, she stated: "As police week continues, I joined Oakland County Sherrif Mike Bouchard and the team of fallen Deputy Sheriffs Brad Reckling and William Butler of Hillsdale County for a lunch honoring their memory and service to Michigan."
Later that day, Senator Slotkin reflected on her first visit to Washington at the age of 11 when she met Senator Carl Levin. She expressed the joy she now finds in engaging with students as a senator herself: "The first time I visited Washington, I was 11 years old. I was with a group and we got to meet the great Senator Carl Levin in between seeing the sights. Now, a lifetime later, talking with students is one of the true pleasures of being a senator myself."
Additionally, she praised Chippewa Middle School students for their proactive approach towards community involvement: "Kudos to the Chippewa Middle School students, whose hard-hitting questions focused on what they could do, as students, to help their communities."
Elissa Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Cornell University obtained in 1998.
