Senator Elissa Slotkin, representing Michigan's 7th district in the U.S. Congress, has shared her perspectives on recent events through a series of tweets. These messages reflect her responses to incidents affecting both her constituents and broader geopolitical matters.
On May 22, 2025, Senator Slotkin expressed her condolences following an antisemitic attack at the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington D.C. "We were on the Senate floor last night when we got the news of the antisemitic attack on a Jewish event at the Capital Jewish Museum in DC. My heart goes out to the families, friends and colleagues of the victims. This kind of targeted violence can’t be tolerated."
Later that day, Slotkin highlighted her commitment to supporting Michigan's auto industry workforce. "As Michigan’s U.S. Senator, I have a special responsibility to stand up for the more than one million Michiganders whose livelihoods depend on the U.S. auto industry. Today I voted to do just that."
Additionally, Slotkin detailed a meeting with Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, which focused on strengthening US-Kurdish relations and discussing regional stability. "Yesterday, I met with @masrourbarzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government, to discuss the longstanding US-Kurdish relationship, economic development, support of the Christian community living in Kurdistan, and the path toward stability in the Middle East."
Elissa Slotkin has been serving since 2019 after replacing Mike Bishop as representative for Michigan's 7th district in Congress. Born in New York City in 1976 and currently residing in Lansing, she is an alumna of Cornell University.
