Sen. Elissa Slotkin, who has represented Michigan’s 7th District in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently addressed several policy issues through a series of social media posts. Slotkin, born in New York City in 1976 and currently residing in Lansing, continues to focus on educational and national security matters.

On July 11, 2025, Slotkin reaffirmed her stance on restricting cell phone use in schools by highlighting a recent step taken for Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) classrooms. She stated, "Last month, I said we should ban cell phones in all K-12 schools, and now we have started down that path by banning cell phones in DoDEA classrooms. With 65,000 kids in DoDEA schools, it’s critical they have an environment where they can focus and learn."

Later the same day, Slotkin addressed concerns regarding foreign automotive competition and national security. She posted on July 11, 2025: "One of my top priorities is to stop Chinese vehicles — now selling for $20k in Europe and Mexico — from ever entering our market. This ban in the Pentagon budget starts that process by ensuring we prevent them from setting foot in our defense facilities."

On July 13, 2025, Slotkin commented on law enforcement practices amid concerns about impersonation incidents. She wrote: "Law enforcement should be required to identify themselves. We've seen police, wearing hoodies & masks, make arrests that look more like kidnappings in an authoritarian country. With reports of people impersonating ICE, our bill is more important than ever."

Elissa Slotkin succeeded Mike Bishop as the representative for Michigan's 7th District and holds a BA from Cornell University.
