Sen. Elissa Slotkin, who has represented Michigan’s 7th District in the U.S. Congress since 2019, recently addressed several key policy issues through her official social media account. Slotkin, a Lansing resident and Cornell University graduate, commented on matters of national security, trade policy, and health care legislation.
On July 13, 2025, Slotkin expressed support for measures to restrict foreign entities from purchasing farmland near sensitive sites in Michigan. She stated: "Banning the Chinese Communist Party and its proxies from buying up Michigan’s farmland — especially land around U.S. military bases — is a no-brainer. It’s been a priority of mine and I’m encouraged by this step to protect our national security."
Later that day, on July 13, 2025, Slotkin criticized proposed changes to U.S. trade tariffs under President Trump’s administration. She wrote: "President Trump seems to think we should have a higher tariff on Canada — our ally — than on some Chinese goods. These yo-yo tariffs are working for no one. Economic chaos does nothing to help middle-class Americans."
On July 14, 2025, Slotkin addressed concerns about pending health care legislation and its potential impact on Americans’ access to affordable care. She stated: "The President's bill affects every single American's health care. Either you're at risk of losing your health care or your health care will get more expensive. I break it down."
Elissa Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976 and has served in Congress since defeating Mike Bishop in 2019.
