Sen. Elissa Slotkin, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan’s 7th district since 2019, addressed a range of issues on July 24, 2025, through a series of posts on her social media account.
In one post published at 14:23 UTC, Slotkin commented on recent media coverage involving former presidents: "They picked the DAY President Trump was named in the Epstein Files to talk about Barack Obama. My 10-year-old nephew understands what is happening. It's a distraction, meant to talk about something other than the President being in the files of a known pedophile and sex offender."
Later that day at 15:22 UTC, she discussed disaster recovery efforts in northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula following an ice storm earlier in March: "This is welcome news and a big step for those still recovering from the once-in-a-generation ice storm in N. Michigan and the UP in March. There is still more work ahead, but my office is here to help Michiganders navigate the disaster process to rebuild."
Addressing broader societal concerns at 21:00 UTC, Slotkin wrote about economic insecurity and its impact on social cohesion: "When people feel like they can’t get ahead, when they can’t provide for their kids what was provided for them, they feel anger. In a multiracial, multiethnic experiment in democracy, people end up blaming people who don’t look like them, speak like them, or pray like them."
Slotkin has represented Michigan’s 7th District since defeating Mike Bishop in 2019. She was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. Slotkin graduated from Cornell University with a BA degree in 1998.
