Sen. Elissa Slotkin marks Social Security milestone and highlights Michigan innovation

Senator Elissa Slotkin, who has represented Michigan’s 7th district in the U.S. Congress since 2019, marked several developments this week through a series of posts on her official social media account.

On August 14, 2025, Slotkin acknowledged the anniversary of a major federal program: "The Social Security Act turns 90 years old this week! Decades later, this earned benefit continues to be the foundation for every American to retire with dignity. As long as I am in the Senate, I will fight to protect these earned benefits now and for future generations."

Later that day, she highlighted Michigan’s ongoing role in automotive innovation following a business expansion: "Michigan has always been the engine of innovation in America’s auto industry, and the opening of Applied Intuition’s Ann Arbor office shows that our leadership in innovative new technologies is only growing stronger. This expansion brings good-paying jobs, cutting-edge vehicle" (August 14, 2025).

In another post on August 14, Slotkin reflected on her recent activities across various regions in Michigan: "After a busy week last week in West Michigan, Detroit, and Grayling, yesterday I started off at Eastern Michigan University, with the Mayor of Ypsilanti, Nicole Brown, and City Manager Andrew Hellenga, and other local leaders from across Washtenaw County. Like so many other".

Slotkin was born in New York City in 1976 and currently resides in Lansing. She graduated from Cornell University with a BA in 1998. Since replacing Mike Bishop as representative for Michigan's 7th district in Congress beginning in 2019,[source] she has focused on issues ranging from social welfare programs to economic development within her state.
