The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that westbound I-94 at the Airport Road bridge in Jackson will be closed on Friday night, September 26, for partial bridge demolition. The closure is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. and end at 9 a.m. on Saturday, September 27.
The demolition is necessary to replace beams that were damaged by a high-load strike on April 11. According to MDOT, "This portion of work will require closing westbound I-94 Friday night for demolition/removal of the damaged beams on the Airport Road bridge."
Drivers traveling through the area should expect delays and are advised to seek alternate routes during the closure period.
MDOT states that this $1 million project is expected to directly and indirectly support 10 jobs based on economic modeling. The department also notes, "This work will replace the portion of the bridge that was damaged," highlighting the safety benefits of the project.
The closest community affected by this closure is Jackson in Jackson County.
