The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) will implement lane closures and intermittent total closures on US-23 at the Joy Road bridge in Ann Arbor starting Friday night. The closures are required to replace bridge beams following a high-load strike that occurred in June 2024.
According to MDOT, one lane will be closed in each direction on US-23 at Joy Road from 9 p.m. Friday, September 26, until Sunday, September 28. Additionally, there will be intermittent total closures of US-23 in both directions beginning at 11:59 p.m. Friday and continuing until 5 a.m. Saturday. Traffic control during this period will be managed by the Michigan State Police.
"Motorists should expect delays," MDOT stated.
The department emphasized that the closure is necessary for safety reasons. "This closure is necessary to provide the safest work area possible for crews and motorists," according to MDOT.
MDOT also reported that the $41 million investment for this project is expected to directly and indirectly support 391 jobs based on economic modeling.
The affected area is located in Washtenaw County near Ann Arbor.
