The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that M-90 at the North Branch Flint River bridge in Lapeer County will be closed overnight on Thursday, September 25. The closure is scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. and end by 5 a.m. Friday, September 26, to allow for deck pouring as part of ongoing bridge improvements.
This project is part of a $3.5 million investment aimed at improving M-90 from M-24 to the west village limit of North Branch. The work includes resurfacing the road, adding centerline rumble strips, and updating pavement markings. Additional upgrades to the bridge involve resurfacing, painting, scour protection, substructure repair, deck patching, railing repair, silane treatment, guardrail installation, and approach work.
According to Governor Gretchen Whitmer: "Across Michigan, we are moving dirt and fixing the damn roads to grow our economy, helping Michiganders go to work, drop their kids off at school and run errands safely. By the end of this construction season, we will have fixed, repaired or replaced nearly 24,500 lane miles of roads and 1,900 bridges, supporting thousands of good-paying, local jobs without raising taxes by a dime. This year, let's build on our momentum to pass a bipartisan local road funding plan so we can keep fixing our damn roads and creating good-paying, local jobs."
During the closure period for deck pouring operations on the North Branch Flint River bridge section of M-90 in Lapeer County’s North Branch area, traffic will be detoured via M-24 (Lapeer Road), Burnside Road and Fish Lake Road. The schedule is subject to weather conditions.
Economic modeling indicates that this investment is expected to support approximately 33 jobs directly and indirectly through its completion. MDOT states that these repairs are designed to extend the lifespan of both roadway structures and improve safety for motorists traveling through this corridor.
