The Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will hold a joint meeting of its Eastern and Western Upper Peninsula Citizens’ Advisory Councils on Wednesday, October 8. The session is scheduled from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Michigan Technological University in Houghton.
The agenda includes presentations on the DNR’s budget and land transaction process. Council members will also receive updates about the department’s wolf abundance trail camera survey and an ongoing moose research study. Reports from various DNR division staff are expected, along with statistics from the harvest reporting application.
Members of the public who wish to comment can contact Kristi Dahlstrom at DahlstromK@Michigan.gov or call 906-226-1331 for instructions.
The advisory councils serve as a channel for local input, advising the DNR on regional programs and policies. They identify areas where the department can improve effectiveness and responsiveness, offering guidance based on their experiences and constituencies. Council members represent a range of natural resource and recreation interests, set meeting agendas, and forward recommendations to the DNR for consideration.
Application forms for future council vacancies, as well as meeting packets and agendas, are available on the council's DNR webpage.
For further information, individuals may contact the DNR Upper Peninsula field deputy’s office at 906-226-1331.
