State Representative Ann Bollin has led the Michigan House in passing a bipartisan state budget that aims to reduce government spending while increasing investments in key areas such as roads, education, and essential services.

Bollin, who serves as House Appropriations chair, stated: “This budget proves government can be responsible with taxpayer dollars while still delivering the resources our families, students, and communities depend on. We cut waste, restored balance, and set real priorities that reflect the needs of Michigan families.”

A notable aspect of the new budget is its record-high funding for schools. The plan increases the per-pupil foundation allowance by $442 compared to last year, raising it to $10,050. This increase had not been approved for schools in the previous year. The budget also restores $321 million for school safety and mental health services—funding that had been previously reduced—ensuring that these programs are available to all students.

Bollin emphasized the significance of these changes: “This budget makes a historic investment in our schools while restoring the critical school safety and mental health resources that students rely on. Parents want their children to learn in safe, supportive classrooms, and this plan delivers on that promise.”

The new budget reflects efforts to prioritize spending based on community needs and restore programs considered important for student well-being.
