The federal government entered a shutdown on October 1, 2025, after Congress and the Trump Administration failed to agree on a Continuing Resolution for funding. This marks the sixth federal shutdown since 1995.

Some federal agencies have managed to keep operations running with existing funds, but many others have had to furlough employees until an agreement is reached.

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce has expressed concern about the ongoing situation. In a statement, the organization said: "The Michigan Chamber has continued to call on Congressional leaders to find a solution so that will end the instability and bring the federal government back to work."

Currently, there is no clear indication of when the shutdown might end. Reports suggest that Congressional leaders are not holding public meetings, though private negotiations may still be underway.

For further information, Mike Alaimo can be contacted at the Michigan Chamber of Commerce.
