Michigan lawmakers have approved a series of bills in the House aimed at promoting small modular reactor (SMR) technology, which is seen as a new and scalable approach to nuclear energy. The legislative package received bipartisan support and is intended to enhance both new and existing energy facilities across the state.
Bill sponsors believe that this legislation will help position Michigan as a leader in clean and reliable next-generation energy production.
The Michigan Chamber of Commerce has expressed its backing for the initiative. "The Michigan Chamber has long championed the need for durable, long-term energy planning and regulatory certainty. We support this package as it moves to the Michigan Senate — because access to clean, affordable and reliable energy is essential to Michigan businesses and communities," according to a statement from the organization.
