Launched in June 2025, the MI Hub for Manufacturers, an initiative of the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s Community & Worker Economic Transition Office, has become a resource for more than 100 manufacturers across the state. The online platform connects Michigan businesses to $17 million in grant and loan opportunities, as well as to events, training, and business resources.
Jonathan Smith, director of the Michigan Community & Worker Economic Transition Office, said, “We are seeing manufacturers across Michigan already using the MI Hub for Manufacturers, showing both the need and desire from businesses to prepare for new opportunities in mobility, advanced energy, defense and other growing sectors. This tool is helping Michigan’s manufacturers stay ahead of the curve, strengthening our position as a global leader in the automotive supply chain and ensuring our workers and businesses are prepared to seize the opportunities of the future.”
Within three months of its launch, the platform has made several features available to manufacturing companies. These include access to $17 million in grants and loans, business advisors, training tools, and quarterly events. The platform also offers guidance on applying for funding and training, such as the Michigan Supplier Conversion Grant Program and the Going PRO Talent Fund. There are now 16 partners, including local and national experts, providing advice to businesses.
Other improvements include a redesigned landing page, updated onboarding, and a new events page to keep manufacturers informed about upcoming opportunities. The MI Hub is the result of a statewide public-private partnership, supported by $1.5 million from philanthropy, and involves organizations like the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and Next Street, a supplier solutions company.
Next Street CEO Charisse Conanan Johnson stated, “The MI Hub for Manufacturers is proving to be a one-stop shop for Michigan’s businesses. By bringing together tools, resources, training and funding opportunities, the platform is making it easier for businesses to improve their operations, prepare their workforce for the new clean energy economy and stay competitive in a rapidly changing industry.”
The platform is intended to help Michigan’s manufacturing sector manage economic, technological, and global trade changes, including supply chain disruptions, tariff pressures, and the shift to electric vehicles. It is part of a broader strategy by the Community & Worker Economic Transition Office, which also includes partnerships with DTE Energy and Consumers Energy—companies that have pledged $3.5 billion annually in purchases from Michigan-based businesses—and a $1.5 million grant from Ballmer Group to develop a Community Transition Playbook.
The Community & Worker Economic Transition Office was established through clean energy and climate legislation passed in 2023. The state’s FY26 budget allocates $25.5 million for the office to support workers and businesses with retraining, job placement, and transition resources.
