Failed Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers has drawn attention for mispronouncing the name of Lapeer County in Michigan during a campaign video released earlier this month. The video, which was posted on social media by his own campaign team, shows Rogers saying “LAH-Peer” instead of the correct pronunciation, “Luh-Peer.” Lapeer County is home to about 90,000 residents.
In response to the incident, the Michigan Democratic Party shared a video featuring Michigan residents explaining how to pronounce “Lapeer” correctly. The party described Rogers as a "Florida mansion-dwelling multi-millionaire" and aimed to highlight his lack of familiarity with local names.
Questions about Rogers’ residency have been an ongoing issue throughout his political career. During his unsuccessful 2024 Senate campaign, concerns were raised regarding his move to Florida and the purchase of a nearly $2 million home there. Critics claimed he lacked a consistent address in Michigan and accused him of misleading voters about where he lives. These concerns were featured in several Democratic attack ads that referred to Rogers as a "Florida man" who was not truthful about living in Michigan.
