The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) has announced that M-81 in Caro, Tuscola County will be closed from November 10 to November 23, 2025. The closure is for a railroad crossing replacement project.

MDOT is investing about $213,000 in the project, which will involve cold milling, applying a hot-mix asphalt overlay, and making improvements to curbs, gutters, and sidewalks. According to MDOT, "This work will improve the road surface and lengthen the life of the at-grade railroad crossing."

During construction, M-81 will be closed in both directions. Traffic will be detoured via Frank Street (old M-24) to M-24 and back to M-81.

The project aims to enhance safety by improving the road conditions at the railroad crossing.
