Lansing Regional Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Sept. 23

The Lansing Regional Chamber-Political Action Committee (LRC-PAC) today announced the endorsements of Jessy Gregg and Mark Meadows for East Lansing City Council.

“East Lansing has transformed over the past decade, and although there are cranes in the sky and positive changes being implemented, there is still a great deal of financial, regulatory and structural issues the city and business community continue to face,“ said Steve Japinga, LRCC vice president of public affairs. “Jessy and Mark’s platforms align with our policy priorities identified based on the needs of the business community. We believe these two candidates have the drive, experience and skills needed to address issues and bring tangible solutions needed to keep the city moving forward.”

The LRC- PAC endorsement process included a review of candidate's experience, responses to a written questionnaire, and in-person interviews. The quality and passion of City Council candidates were inspiring, and the LRC-PAC is encouraged by the growth each candidate has experienced and shown. Their combined expertise will be necessary in addressing key issues. We look forward to working with these individuals in continuing the economic growth of East Lansing and the region.

Gregg is a small business owner of a fabric shop in downtown East Lansing. She is heavily involved in the community, serving as vice-chair of the Ingham County Parks Commission, is a women’s running coach and was appointed to the East Lansing Arts Council. Prior to opening her business, Gregg was a freelance reporter for many years, helping her to gain an unbiased view of the issues East Lansing and the business community face.

“Jessy is a community champion and advocate,” said Japinga. “Her community service experience matched with her personal investment in the downtown area, show her love, commitment and support of this city, its residents and businesses. We look forward to the great ideas and perspective she will bring to Council.”

Meadows currently serves on the East Lansing City Council as mayor, a position he has held since 2015. Previously, he was a member of City Council from 1995-2006. During his stints on Council, Meadows has been a strong proponent for economic development. He has been instrumental in the transformation of downtown East Lansing and continues to work to create an atmosphere that encourages growth and prosperity for businesses in the city. Through his involvement in programs like the East Lansing/Meridian Township Business Roundtable, he has been able to actively learn about issues the business community faces and work directly with them to find solutions. Additionally, Meadows spent six years in the Michigan House of Representatives and worked as an assistant attorney general under Frank Kelley and Jennifer Granholm.

“Mark’s years of experience and vision for the future of East Lansing make him a solid choice for City Council,” said Japinga. “His regional approach to leadership is what we need to ensure East Lansing continues to grow and thrive.”
