OPINION: Three Michigan questions for Joe Biden

As Joe Biden travels to Michigan tomorrow, here are three critical questions for him that he should be asked.

Why did Biden snub Michigan before? What changed?

It has been almost 6 months to the day since Biden was last in Michigan. Now, after months of barely leaving his basement, Biden last week decided to again venture above ground, and will actually pay a visit to the battleground state of Michigan.

Previously, he bizarrely claimed that the “science” would not allow him to travel. The claim was dubious, of course, especially given that he can effectively travel privately in a bubble with constant government security protection. But, nothing regarding the “science” changed. There are no major new developments regarding the virus, nor changes to safety protocols in Michigan or elsewhere.

So, did the science change…or, did the political science change?

After all, the RealClear Politics average of Michigan polls shows Biden’s lead presently at only 2.6%, far lower from the 8.6% lead Biden enjoyed this summer. In addition, the most recent Trafalgar Group poll, which correctly forecasted Trump’s Michigan triumph in 2016, now has Trump leading Biden in the Cherry State by 2%. So, it seems that the recent momentum of President Trump and our campaign finally smoked Joe out of his hideout.

Why should Michigan retreat backward to economic globalism?

Joe Biden has spent nearly a half century in the Washington swamp, and he’s been a true Delaware senator, representing the interests of giant multinational corporations and the prerogatives of foreign governments, to the detriment of American workers, especially heartland industrial workers in places like Michigan.

In fact, Biden was a foremost proponent of the disastrous NAFTA agreement in 1994. From the ratification of NAFTA until President Trump’s election, Michigan lost a staggering 210,800 manufacturing jobs. Thankfully, President Trump renegotiated that terrible trade deal and replaced it with the USMCA pact which prioritizes American workers.

Joe Biden was also the best friend the tyrants of Beijing could ever ask for in Washington. As senator and as vice-president, he aggressively pushed China’s inclusion into the World Trade Organization and enabled the China Communist Party’s systematic abuse of American workers through trade practices that were predatory, not reciprocal, and even outright criminal. According to a study from the Economic Policy Institute, the state of Michigan lost 92,400 jobs due to the disastrous trade structures with China that Biden facilitated.

While the CCP plundered American technology and destroyed American manufacturing jobs, Joe Biden had the gall to praise China, saying in 2011 that “a rising China is a positive, positive development, not only for China, but for America.”

As then-Vice President Biden uttered that Pollyanna nonsense to his Davos-credentialed CEO fanboys, America’s industrial heartland endured devastation. Biden’s own family prospered though, as his wayward son Hunter traveled with his father on an official vice-presidential visit to China aboard Air Force Two. After meetings with officials of the Chinese regime, Hunter secured a massive $1.5 billion investment in his private equity fund, even though the younger Biden had no track record in that industry.

Just recently, Joe Biden promised to remove the tariffs that President Trump imposed on Chinese goods, without requiring any accommodation on the part of Beijing. Biden in the White House would send America back to globalism, and back to a position of economic supplication to China. Clearly, Joe Biden prioritizes places like Beijing over places like Battle Creek.

Where does Biden stand on Big Ten football?

Biden’s close ally, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, publicly stated that she was “glad” that the Big Ten canceled the fall football season.

Now, with lots of jockeying to try to salvage a football season, various reports point to Whitmer as a key obstacle to allowing Michigan and Michigan State to play.

President Trump himself identified Whitmer as an impediment to Big Ten football, even though other conferences safely proceed with their seasons.

Wolverine Coach Jim Harbaugh has been steadfast in advocating for U of M players, alumni, and fans, stating: “we respect the challenge that the virus has presented however we will not cower from it.” Michigan high school football, in a sharp reversal, recently reinstated a fall season.

So, Biden must be asked, if he agrees with Whitmer, should these college athletes, who are overwhelmingly not vulnerable to dire risks from the virus, be punished for political reasons? Does Biden accept that political football is no substitute for the real thing?
