Charges are likely in the January 7 arrest of a man who allegedly reported the presence of a bomb at the Michigan Capitol earlier that morning, according to the Department of the Attorney General at Michigan.gov.
According to the report, 48-year-old Michael Varrone of Charlotte was arrested by the Michigan State Police (MSP) after reportedly calling a bomb threat into the Capitol in at 6:40 a.m. The building was found to be safe and secure, and Capitol staff were able to return at 9 a.m. after a morning of lockdown.
The Capitol had already been closed to the public at the time.
Varrone allegedly called the control operator at the Capitol and said that everyone needed to evacuate because the building was going to explode. The operator immediately reported the threat to the MSP.
A release from the MSP Newsroom said that Varrone will be prosecuted "to the fullest extent the law will allow."
