Snow Plow Update

Snow

City of Lansing recently issued the following announcement.

Snow Plow Update: City snow plow drivers once again worked all night in residential areas to get more streets cleared and many neighborhood streets in the City have been plowed. They will continue working throughout the day today in neighborhoods and are making progress as they work through their established routes.

Thank you all for your continued patience. The official snowfall total for Lansing was 13.3 inches, and with over 440 miles of streets to plow, that’s a lot of work. Our drivers have been working incredible hours to get the streets cleared quickly.  If your street hasn’t been plowed yet, please know that they are getting there soon. Also, please continue to refrain from parking on unplowed streets. This slows our plowing operations down for everyone and creates a hazard for our plow drivers and other residents.

As of this morning, all of our 31 local routes have been started.  The following local routes are complete:  12, 19, 22, 24, 26, 27 and 31.  Incomplete routes from 15-31 will be completed at some point during first shift today.  (Please note that all but 3 of the local routes have dead-end streets or alleys that get plowed with a pickup truck, and that is the reason why routes 15-31 haven’t switched to completed yet.)

At this point, the Public Service Department is confident that the entire City will 100% complete with local plowing by tonight, with most routes completed by this afternoon.  As more routes get cleared, the City is able to double up plows in the routes, further speeding up the process.

Residents can view our snow plow map, and check on our progress at: https://www.lansingmi.gov/486/Snow-Plow-Map.
