Rep. Elissa Slotkin, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Michigan's 7th district, has recently shared her thoughts on Holocaust Remembrance Day and announced the opening of her new Senate headquarters in Detroit through a series of tweets.
On January 27, 2025, Rep. Slotkin emphasized the importance of education amidst rising antisemitism and Holocaust denial. She stated, "With antisemitism and holocaust denial both on the rise around the world, it’s important to make the point of educating ourselves and our young people, and Remembrance Day gives us a moment to do just that."
In another tweet posted on the same day, she reflected on the dwindling number of Holocaust survivors who can share their experiences firsthand. Slotkin noted, "Every year, fewer people with memories of the Holocaust remain to bear witness. Many of us grew up with parents and grandparents coming to our schools to tell their stories. They served as a living reminder of what darkness our society is capable of." This statement was accompanied by the hashtag #HolocaustRemembranceDay.
Later that day, Slotkin announced via Twitter that her new Senate headquarters office had officially opened in Detroit at 719 Griswold Street, STE 700. She invited constituents to visit for assistance with various services such as Social Security and Medicare. Her post read: "Today, we officially opened my new Senate HQ office in Detroit... We can help with Social Security, Medicare, VA, immigration, passports, student loans and more. Stop by!"
